The Who, What, Where, When & How of Wolfie’s life with us

Way back in December 2012 we had a few changes around the cat cabin and in our lives… One of which was Wolfie coming to live with us. Read on to find out things you may not have known before about him!
Wolfie was estimated at 13+ when he came to us with Pumpkin, his 7 year old daughter. They were ex farm cats, Pum was basically feral, although Wolfie was a more sociable soul who spent any spare moment possible talking to his “man”, the elderly farmer out in the yard.
Their names were not the names they previously knew – When they came here Wolfie was “Old Grey” and Pumpkin was “Patches” although they did not respond to these names at all and we suspect they were only named this during the rehoming process.
Wolfie was found to be suffering from Feline Herpes Virus (Cat Flu)  and had given up on fending for himself in the farmers yard. Pumpkin had been finding scraps of food for both of them and was finding it increasingly difficult to do so. We were told that the elderly farmer sadly died, the wife could not keep the farm and was moving to Bristol to be with / near their sons family – and they had to remove the animals from the property.
Given the cats ages and states of health the recieving cat rescue were under the impression that it was “last ditch at rehoming, or face the needle”.. Thankfully we chanced upon them just in time and took them in. We later found out that there had been other cats from the farm (siblings / family to Wolfie and Pum) but they had “disappeared” by the time they had travelled to North Wales to collect the cats ready for transport and holding. We do often wonder what it would have been like had there been more of their family with them here… Although we may never have had the chance to take them on in that case.

Wolfie had been bulked up with steroid injections by the rescue when we received him – he was unhappy, overweight and uncomfortable. Within three days of being here it was very clear that the rescue didn’t tell us the whole story and that Wolfie’s cat flu was (obviously) NOT “cleared up” (it doesn’t work that way), his eyes were streaming, nose snuffling and lots of sneezles.
One of my favourite memories of the early days were that he within 20 minutes of arriving CHOSE to go in to see Chewie in her house and immediately bonded, I mean IMMEDIATELY.
